The first annual "Thunder4Vets" event was hosted by Ironsteed Harley-Davidson in Vacaville. Chris Snow, a Lyon Real Estate agent from Davis was the organizer of this event which benefitted the Wounded Warriors Family Support. This new event had it together with sponsors, vendors, T-shirts and ride pins.

On-site vendors included On-Site Health & Safety - in case you get hurt on the job (onsitehealthandsafety.com), Lesleysjewels - pick your parts and have custom jewelry made while you wait (Lesleysjewels.com), GEICO... with a drawing for $50 H-D gift card, Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys, Hogs Horns and Hens bar-b-que - generous portions, pulled pork tender and juicy, beans w/spicy sausage, cold slaw... yum (sheldon@hogshornsandhens.com). Sounds on-site were provided by 101.9 the Wolf and The Dave Russell Band - they play both kinds of music... country, and, western... and they're good at it too.

Shortly after 10am about one hundred bikes fired up for the short ride east on I-80, then east on Midway Road to the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery. The ceremony consisted of a music prelude, welcome, presentation of colors, pledge of allegiance, national anthem, invocation, wreath presentation, rifle salute [oh yeah!], taps, benediction, retiring of colors, music postlude.

The ride continued east on Midway Road then North on Pedrick Road to Plainfield Station for a brief pit stop; then west on County Road E-6 to I-505 south back to Vacaville.

Trying to round up a bunch of veterans for a photo opportunity reminded me of the time I was watching my border collie trying to herd Guinnea pigs... it wasn't happening, but, we did manage to get a gaggle of vets, including Dave Allen, who, in fact is a navy veteran of over 21 years... he was in the navy when it was cool - (when they had sails!!!)... to stand still long enough to take a picture.

The event organizer, Chris Snow, along with the support of Ironsteed Harley-Davidson facilitated by Dave Allen and other volunteers, such as Chris Kinley (MA2) and Shannon Kinley, raised $10,000 on this, the first year of the event! And Chris vows to make next year's run bigger, better, and raise more for the Wounded Warriors. WOW! Really good job Chris, et al.

KNUCKLEHEADS FOREVER!

A note from Chris Snow, event organizer:
Operation Intrepid would like to thank the generous support of all of our corporate sponsors including DBI Beverage, Sysco of Sacramento, Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys, Geico Motorcycle Insurance, Hogs Horns and Hens, Lucas Oil, 101.9 the Wolf, Bachman Construction, Fitzbuck Construction, Moss Creek Winery, and Senders Wines. Iron steed Harley Davidson was our generous host for the event and we would like to thank the staff for their support at the event.

We would like to thank Thunder Roads and we enjoyed having the journalists with us on our mission to support those who have served us and to help spread our message.

Without the help of countless volunteers, this event could not have been a success. Thank you for all of your help and dedication
to our cause and achieving such a great event in a short amount of time.

We will continue to grow the Thunder 4 Vets ride next year and look forward to partnering with Thunder Roads again. We cannot thank the magazine enough for supporting Operation Intrepid through our infancy.

Sincerely,
Operation Intrepid Team
