Lake Lodge is nestled on the north shore of Yellowstone Lake which, covering 135 square miles, is the
largest fresh water lake in the United States above 7,000 feetl. Lake Lodge was built between 1921 and
1929 as the last of the parks lodges designed to accomodate the the new automobile traveler who did
not wish to either tent camp, or stay in the higher priced hotels. The present "pioneer" cabins were
constructed during a period spanning the years of the mid-1920s to the late 1930s. The more modern
"western" cabins were added in the late-1950s and 1960s, bringing the total number of cabins to 186.
