| 14JUN08/SAT... Mike, Randall, Dannie, Stan, Leeda, Sharon & Rusl... "Day #2" of the Redwood Run... | ||||

| 14JUN08: The Henchmen were camped next to us, Dannie noticed one of the Henchman's front calipers dangling on his road-glide. He had a couple of tires put on at a shop in Lathrup and on the way up the bolts holding the right hand side caliper fell out... lucky for him the caliper fell to the outside instead of to the inside and tangling with the spokes!!! He was of to Ukiah to get it fixed. We fixed and had coffee then headed off to Garberville for breakfast... | ||||

| ...a one hour wait... oh well... the streets were shut down for the rodeo parade which was fun while waiting for breakfast... | ||||

| ... the usual, horses and fire trucks complete with a water fight between them,... | ||||

| ...cement trucks blowing bubbles out the back... | ||||

| By the time we finished breakfast the parade was over and the streets were open... headed for a ride through the redwoods on the old US101, Avenue of the Giants. | ||||

| Sharon was taking pictures while we were rolling, there were bikes going every direction on the road... | ||||

| ... and... there were bikes at every wide spot in the road... | ||||

| ... and... she discovered while taking pictures that the batteries in the camera were dead, and I had brought six recharged pair of batteries, but, all were in camp, so pull over at next general store to get batteries (and duct tape to do a temporary fix on the left hand side floor board), and... | ||||
|

| ... Stan says by the way, he needs gas... reeeally soon... check in store and closest gas station is six miles back the way we came... that's fine... camera wasn't working there anyway, so... | ||||

| ...back for gas... | ||||

| ... and then resume our north bound drive through the redwoods... | ||||

| ... and taking pictures, even decent over the shoulder shots of Dannie, Randall, Mike, Stan and Leeda, and others... | ||||

| ... our ride on the Avenue of the Giants was about a twenty-five mile stretch of old highway 101 from Phillipsville to Redcrest, and twenty-five miles back... | ||||

| ... at Redcrest we stop at a coffee shop with a nice shady sitting area outside... | ||||

| ... when we resume, Randall and Dannie jump back onto the freeway, Stan, Leeda, Mike, Sharon and I continue retracking our path south and stop to go through one of the arrays of vendors that were sprinkled throughout the area, what with all the bikes running all over the place, then gas at Garberville to be ready for the Sunday morning departure and back to camp... | ||||

| We hang out at camp for a while and Stan and Leeda decide that rather than deal with another sleepless night to head back to Sacramento, so, they break camp and split... | ||||
|

|
|
|
| ... later... we catch a luxury bus back to the pit... | ||||

| ... and take the walk down the hill... | ||||
|

|
|

| ... into the pit for the BBQ dinner... another good one, salad, cowboy beans, roll, and good sized steak! | ||||

| Dinner down, it was time for 10 Years After... so... up the hill in front of the band stand... | ||||

| ... good music and people watching, near "mammary lane" where girls, who are so inclined are collecting Mardis Gra beads... in fact, there were dudes at the booth where the beads were being sold by three foxes who immediately after buying them "cashed them in" right there at the booth. Then another winner... the Marshal Tucker Band was up... Ratt began at 10 pm and we decided to pass on them, so, back to camp and hang out for a while before crashing... the number of bikes running around and the noise level in general significantly increased at midnight when Ratt's session was over, and again at 2am when Thunderstruck was over, including someone very close by who probably had been in the loud pipe contest and was demonstrating how loud his pipes were... IS THAT ALL YOU GOT?!?!?... thought his engine was going to blow... and... he and some others did this for a while... too bad Stan had already split... I'm sure he would have been pleased to have been awoken by that! | ||||
