Clay Springs Fire

MIllARD COUNTY -- The expansive Clay Springs Fire had burned more than 100,000 acres by Tuesday morning and was potentially threatening communities as far north as Nephi.

Fire authorities reported the blaze was 48 percent contained Tuesday morning but continued to pose a threat to Mills, Levan, Scipio, Nephi and Leamington. However, no evacuations were in effect Tuesday and only Oak Canyon Road was closed. The fire reportedly started Wednesday near Oak City in Millard County and burned at least 102,699 acres. A type 1 incident management team from southern California was on scene providing support Tuesday. The blaze was being fought by 32 fire engines, 17 bulldozers, 17 hand crews and seven helicopters.

Officials report that crews have constructed fire lines near Whiskey Creek Canyon and Blue Mountain. The fire also has burned Hardscrabble Canyon and crossed a buried natural gas pipeline.
