The phone just rang while editing this file; it wasn't mom or dad this time...
... but I still kringe when the phone rings with the thought that it may be mom or dad...
... once I got past "how are you" I never really knew what to say to them.
Dad and I had a really strained past during my youth.
Dad did really well with his life, from a poor farm boy to an power systems electrical engineer...
... managed his finances really well and afforded nice homes and vacations throughout his life.
Although I raised 6 kids and kept a roof over their heads and did some vacations...
... and although dad and I did get along better later in life (hunting trips, etc)...
... I always felt like I was the black sheep of the family and a disappointment to dad.
I don't recall ever telling him I loved him, nor he me...
... seemed like we knew it without saying it...
... no problem telling mom I loved her...
... and she did tell me and clearly did love me.
I get meloncoly looking over all the photos of mom and dad's life...
... seeing the good times they had with their family and friends...
... and seeing their friends also age and cease to be in photos as time passed.
It has always been that they are always there (well, they were most of my life)...
... and (I've always felt like) they'll always be there...
nooooo...
they were always there, and now they are gone forever, but not forgotten.

Judy doesn't look very happy in this photo...

since the mid-1980's she's been telling me...
"as soon as the kids are out of school I'm outta here"...
well... that makes 2 marriages that I messed up...
thought I was doing better the 2nd time around, but nooooo...
well, they say "the 3rd time is charm"... so far so good!
